Are there any specific dominant religions in particular geopolitical regions?
Thought my world there are lots of gods, demigods, self-proclaimed gods, and what to be gods. The people may know the story of some but not all, and they worship a core few - mostly of Pythia and Hestia, Goddess of Life and Hearth. While they are not siblings they are often revered as equals.
Pythia is the world, life, and everything. All other Gods come from her life and are her dependence. Because of this, she is worshiped as the God of Gods. Most large cities will have a temple to her focusing on a small garden in its walls. Well, smaller towns might not have temples they often have statues of murals of Her. Often in a proud or poised manner or with other gods.
Faith for most is small thank yous for the goods. The logic is that they may not know the gods who deserve the praise but Pythia can pass the message along. For the select few who worship her as the main god, it looks diffrent, taking on a life of education and learning the gods so you can help others find the gods you are after. Purity is the highest concern often not even partaking in "sinful" actions.
Hestia on the other hand is often called "the household goddess." Her domain includes things as child-rearing, housekeeping, Her domain includes things as child-rearing, housekeeping, fire, light, and creating a healthy home and community. She is often the goddess people will put over their hearths and her symbol, a single flame with a line in the middle, can be seen all over.
The goddess of home and hearth rarely have formal temples. Here churches are the homeless shelter, orphanages, or community centers in town or city run by nuns of her order. Unlike Pythia, she does have orders of clerics and paladins known as BLANK.
Sitting on the coast only a few hundred miles south of the Temple of Life itself stands a tower with an eternal flame. The tower and surrounding structures are part of a Fortress. There train the most dedicated soldiers in the world. Their lives are dedicated to spreading the flame to all corners of the world and breaking light to the darkness - by any means necessary. The paladins small lantern-like vile, no larger than a finger, that holds a small part of their eternal flame - given to them when they become a paladin the indoctrination ritual.
Hestia's clergy could not be more diffrent. Preachers of peace, focus on healing and providing to the wounded. They also aim to remain neutral in worldly affairs, trying to provide advice and guidance. Helping with those of all faiths.
While Pythia and Hestia are the main two there are others also regionalized.
In the cold land of Icebeach or northern Bec Morena, the Goddess of Winter was not just known but worshipped. Out of fear or respect, it is often unclear. She makes her presence known by punishing those who interrupt her winter's delight. Taking glee out of suffering she is often appeased with deep sacrifices, but of course, sentient beings work too. While there are small churches she does not have a formal clergy but rather those she "gifts" with spirit.
Far south of Icebeach is another example of local worship. In the Atheneum Arcana, the God of Humans and Magic is discussed frequently and is a big part of the day-to-day. His being dead has little impact on their worship but instead to him, it is more to his legacy. Another Goddess of Magic has taken up the mantel over the eons. While these goddesses are worshipped in private Arcana is public.
